About the Kansai Region

The Kansai Region, in which Osaka, the host city of the Expo, is included, is famous for its many areas in which long-established historical and cultural features are deeply rooted, including Kyoto and Nara, as well as Ise-Shima, where the highest-ranking shrine in Japan is located, and Yoshino and Asuka, scenic sites surrounded by lush nature.

The historic city of Nara was the Imperial capital approximately 1,300 years ago.

It is home to numerous sites of important historic heritage, including Todaiji Temple, Kofukuji Temple, and Kasugataisha Shrine.

Amid the lush greenery of Nara Park, you can see and even touch wild deer, which are traditionally believed to be the messengers of a deity. On Mt. Ikoma, rising between Nara and Osaka, you can find an essentially Japanese kind of nostalgic landscape, with an amusement park with a long history, a temple, etc.
